Come & Try Event -10 Mile Timetrial

Date Published: 20th April 2016

Organiser: Charlie Barrow

To enter, email Charlie at: barrow.charlie@gmail.com

The event will be a 10 Mile Timetrial on 10th May 2016 at 19:00 held on a British Cycling registered course starting from just outside Drumoak.

Entry fee is donations of between £3 and £5 to support Charlie's fundraising effort, see details below.

The nature of this event is to keep it fun and light-hearted, as opposed to a serious race. There will likely be some spot prizes for eg nearest to 24:00, 28:00, 32:00, 36:00 and 40 minutes, but no trophies.

The great thing about Cycling Timetrials is that it is you against the clock first and foremost, as opposed to being against other riders. Your main aim is to beat your own previous time. If you can do that, you are a winner.

This is another first for the club. We are running this event for club members only, whether new to TT or experienced. This will give us a chance to gauge the level of interest in this type of event before we embark on committing to run more of these.

Additionally we are supporting Charlie in a very worthwhile adventure he is undertaking in July.

Charlie's Adventure:

In July 2016, Charlie will fly out to Rwanda to spend 4 weeks working with teachers and children, sharing, learning and living in the community. He will be tasked with developing the skills of Rwandan teachers and modelling good practice as Rwanda continue to develop their education system.

Upon returning to Scotland, Charlie will be developing Learning for Sustainability (Global Citizenship) in schools to enable children to further their understanding of environmental issues, over-dependence on resources and fair global trade.

The project is a collaboration between The Wood Foundation, Aberdeenshire and Aberdeen City Councils. I need to raise £1250 towards the cost of this trip.

More About the Event:

There will be a donations bucket near the start line to raise money for Charlie’s Charity work – Suggested donation £3 - £5 or whatever you can afford.
You can use any type of upright 2 wheeled bicycle eg. Road, MTB, Hybrid
Riders will be allocated a Start Time beforehand and will be set off at 1 minute intervals.
It is an individual effort, so, if someone catches and passes you, you are not allowed to take shelter behind them. You must drop back around 15 metres before you can attempt to repass.
The course will be well signed with ‘Caution Cycle Event in Progress’ type signs.
There are only 2 turns on the course, both are left hand turns and will have race marshals stationed at them.
Timing will be done using official BC calibrated watches
All riders must have a big grin on their face within 5 minutes of crossing the finish line.
Further info will be sent out nearer the date.

Results will be emailed out to those taking part and also read out in the Marine approx. 1 hour after the finish. (We hear that Robert is brewing a race specific Recovery Beer)
